internship overview.

This summer, I had the opportunity to grow as a product designer at Meta's Foundations Design Team. After last year’s company rebranding, products across Reality Labs are being positioned as Meta products, where I worked on designing the next generation of the design system.

my role.

On the Foundations Design Team, I worked tightly with a core multidisciplinary design team of product designers, motion designers, production designers, content designers, accessibility leads, user researchers, prototypers, and illustrators. I owned the mobile adaptation of the design system and worked towards visually aligning the ecosystem of Meta products.

my impact.

Our work in Foundations spans multiple pillars and allows them to leverage our design system for their own patterns that span devices, platforms, and functions. I had the pleasure of helping envision a new cohesive visual foundation and set the language for a multi-platform design system going forward.

By the end of the summer, I delivered:
(1) a design system audit and a competitive analysis
(2) a mobile components library with UI specs detailing motion design, interaction behaviour, and visual aesthetics

key learnings.

1. 🕵️ ADAPTING QUICKLY

Things are changing all the time! Whether it be new technologies, a business pivot, shift in strategy, new team members, etc. — I learned how to find context, or make it myself by connecting with the team and focus on moving forward through actionable next steps.

2. 👥 WORKING WITH MULTIDISCIPLINARY DESIGNERS

Somehow, I found myself surrounded by the most talented and creative minds in the industry, who were also incredibly supportive in my growth. I learned to lean on each discipline to help my polish my visual craft and improve my interaction design skills.

3. 💪 THE POWER OF DESIGN

I was faced with so many moving parts, specialized teams, and shifting business needs. Through the chaos, I saw how the power of strong visuals and prototyping inspired large audiences to find their footing and push forward to innovate more.

my team.

The core design team comprised of multi-faceted designers and leaders who continue to inspire me! My time at Meta was also defined by amazing mentors and brilliant individuals from Reality Labs as a whole.
